Milwaukie Youth Basketball Association is a competitive basketball program serving girls and boys from 3rd-8th Grade. MMYBA is the direct feeder program for Milwaukie High School. The season starts in early November and goes through early March. Our season will primarily be composed of tournaments with each tournament having about 4 games. We divide our teams based on age groups and skill level of the team. There will be (3) different categories of age/skill levels that will determine the quantity of practices and games as well as cost and minimum playing time.

Practices

Teams will start practicing the first week of November. Depending on age and level, there will be two to three 90 minute practices per week. Generally, teams will not have practices over winter break. Practices are held at local elementary and middle schools.

Games

Games will primarily be on the weekends and parents should expect to attend games on Saturday and Sunday. Many tournaments are school fundraisers. Parents and spectators should plan to pay daily entry fees in order to watch the games. Some teams may have the opportunity to play individual games during the week against local teams.

Games and tournaments are generally played in the greater Portland area and surrounding suburbs. We expect players to be in Lake Oswego, Tigard, Sherwood, Wilsonville, Canby, Salem, Vancouver and Portland for tournaments in addition to other cities. Some middle school teams may elect to go to Seaside in February. If teams qualify, they may also travel to either Salem or central Oregon for state championship tournaments.

Evaluations & Team Placement

Players must be registered to participate in evaluations.

Tryout Dates: Tryouts have ended. Thanks to all who came out!

Players must participate in at least one tryout. Elementary school evaluations are open to parent spectators. Middle school players evaluations will be closed to spectators.

Within 72 hours after the completion of tryouts, rosters will be finalized and notifications sent out. Selected players are expected to confirm participation and pay all dues within 72 hours of the team announcements.

Minimum Playing Time During Season

Coaches are expected to maintain a minimum playtime standard for each game. These standards are intended for those players who the head coach observes as maintaining non-disruptive behavior and consistent game / practice attendance record. These standards apply for any game during a season (officiated or not). The goal is to exceed the standard as much as possible but represents a minimum requirement.

Fees & Uniforms

Season fees depend on age group and team skill level.

Please expect to pay season fees once your player is selected to a team.

All players will need to purchase a new uniform. The uniform try-on date will be held separately from tryouts and instead at a parent/player information meeting on Oct. 12 from 5-7 pm. Uniform payment is to be paid at the time of player confirmation.

Scholarships

We offer scholarships for players in need of assistance. You can submit an application for the 2024-25 season by filling out the scholarship form and using the code ASSIST at checkout.
